Mercury Lynx. 1981–7 (prod. unknown). 3- and 5-door sedan, 5-door wagon. F/F, 1598, 1859 cm³ petrol, 1998 cm³ diesel (4 cyl. OHC). Rebadged, upscale version of US Ford Escort, at one point Mercury’s best selling model. Diesel from Mazda, from 1984, but unpopular as fuel crisis panic wore off; 1·9 from 1985 as 1·6 deleted. CVH petrol engines considered harsh. Turbo 1·6 option in 1984–5. Inoffensive, as with Escort.

Manufacturing locations: Wayne, Michigan, USA; Oakville, Ontario, Canada; Hermosillo, Sonora, México

Marque: Mercury | Predecessor: Mercury Bobcat | Successor: Ford Laser (1985–7) (as Mercury Tracer)
