Volvo 164. 1968–75 (prod. 146,008). 4-door saloon. F/R, 2978 cm³ (6 cyl. OHV). Luxury Volvo, with its roots in the P358 concept for a V8-powered model. Elements of Jan Wilsgaard’s design were used on the basic 144 design, with longer front end for the 164 (extra 100 mm in wheelbase; 60 mm in overall length). Fuel injection on 164E from 1969; standard across range from 1973. Strong performance from six, power rising from 145 hp SAE in normally aspirated engine to 175 hp SAE in injected version.
