From AutocadeDodge Caravan/Dodge Grand Caravan (NS). 1996–2000 (prod. n/a). 4- and 5-door MPV, 5-door LWB MPV. F/F, F/A, 2429 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 2972 cm³ (V6 OHC), 3301, 3778 cm³ (V6 OHV). Chrysler smooths out the lines of the original minivan, with a more contemporary, aerodynamic design. Grand Caravan referred to LWB model. Considered modern, spacious, driveable and comfortable at the time. Four-cylinder unit made 150 hp but mated to a three-speed automatic; Mitsubishi-made 3·0 had the same power output; and 3·3 developed only 158 hp. Upscale models had anti-lock brakes and cruise control; ES had driver’s side sliding rear door, which initially wasn’t standard throughout the range. Self-levelling rear suspension also an option. Not that reliable, some models thirsty, and IIHS rated its safety as marginal.
